Hello,
I am also seeking work in San Francisco. Are there any entry-level jobs available for which you don't need a resume? I am a college graduate and I've worked in customer service and cashier jobs. I haven't had a stable job history for 10 years because my ex-husband didn't want me to work. On top of that, I'm 49, which doesn't help either. I have a little bit of money, and I'm staying in a guesthouse, but I need to make more money soon. Evey time that I apply for a job, I am turned down, or they never call back. I also have a mild speech impairment.
I don't want to go on welfare or SSI. I want to be independent. I'd sure appreciate any suggestions. ;)
Thanks,
Ann

Re: Also seeking work in San Francisco; any jobs where you don't need a resume?
Mon, August 30, 2004 - 4:25 PMHey Ann!
You're in a tough spot and I sympathize. You may want to try the temp agencies. If you don't have a resume that won't necessarily prevent them from finding you work. You may have to pass a few tests but they usually allow you to practice and learn new computer skills. I'd probably use the phone book and the Internet for contacting these agencies. Just a thought.... -

Mon, August 30, 2004 - 7:58 PMHi Byron,
Thanks for your suggestions. I am registered with Appleone and Access Staffing, but I'm not really skilled in the areas in which they have job offerings. I'm also registered with the California EDD. And I check Craigslist and other job search sites a couple times a day
I may do housekeeping for awhile, if I can't get anything else, just to put some more money in the bank. At least I've got plenty of experience in that, since I have 3 grown sons.
I wish you good luck with your job search too. It's tough out there right now, especially in San Francisco.
Very sincerely,
Ann

Re: Also seeking work in San Francisco; any jobs where you don't need a resume?
Tue, August 31, 2004 - 4:09 PMHi Byron,
I'm hoping that I might have a job tomorrow (9/1). I applied for a job with Vector over the internet. They didn't want a resume. They called me yesterday, but I didn't get the message till today. I called them and they are going to interview me tomorrow afternoon. So, I'm keeping my fingers crossed. The interview is over in the Potrero Hill area on 3rd St. near 20th, but I'm not sure where I would be working. I think I will be selling housewares, if I get hired.
It would sure be nice to have a job on September 1st. A good way to start the month. I hope your job search is going o.k. Thanks again for your suggestions.
Very sincerely,
Ann -

Wed, September 1, 2004 - 11:23 AMI hope you get it Ann. Please post if you do. I'm searching for p/t work and it's been difficult (of course trying to find part time work that I can make $15 an hour). I'm planning on contacting some temp agencies very soon. Thanks for checking in. -

Re: Also seeking work in San Francisco; any jobs where you don't need a resume?
Fri, September 3, 2004 - 10:14 AMHi Byron,
Good luck with the temp agencies. I don't think that I got the job with Vector. I'm here at the Resource Center at the Women's Building (at Valencia and 18th) to see if I can re-do my resume. I think perhaps that might help my chances of finding employment. Anyone is welcome to use the Resource Center, on the second floor, if you ever want to check it out. You can send local faxes for free and make local phone calls too, or calls with a calling card. Also, you can use the internet here, for free.
Well, I'll close for now. Take care and I hope you find a job soon!
Very sincerely,
Ann
